WHMCS does alright when it comes to support, but, like anything, there are so very many ways that it can do better. WHMCS added the ability to ‘watch’ tickets quite some time back, however this is not automatically enabled after a staff member replies.
This addon allows this to be toggled, so staff members are watching tickets they reply to.
You can even toggle the ticket to remove all watchers after the ticket is closed, though that would be a bad idea.
With WHMCS Support Extended, you can automatically assign a ticket to a user when they reply. This is not done by default, or able to be done in WHMCS without an addon
This addon allows you to clear custom fields from tickets on closing. This is incredibly useful when you have sensitive data that needs to be removed.
ALL WHMCS Guru addons are being rewritten to ensure better forward compatibility with both WHMCS and PHP, as well as potential other billing integrations.

Prior to WHMCS v8, it was necessary to encrypt custom fields in the database outside of WHMCS, using a plugin. This was added into WHMCS in v8. If you’re using an earlier version of WHMCS, this addon will do this for you.
